Clinical Standards Division
Prof Simon Ray
2010 - 2013
The Clinical Standards Division looks after the work that British Cardiovascular Society undertakes with regard to the setting and monitoring of clinical standards, both personal and institutional. The VP works to ensure that BCS achieves its objective of being the lead organization in Britain in setting and monitoring the standard, audit and workforce planning within cardiovascular medicine.
We are currently looking at how BCS should assess the future demand and need for cardiovascular services in the UK, and are exploring potential collaboration between BCS and with the British Heart Foundation.
Recent work within the Clinical Standards Division include:
Other BCS Reports
- Cardiac workforce requirements in the UK, 2005 Report
- Clinical and laboratory cardiac facilities required in the UK, 2004 Report
The BCS no longer undertakes independent peer review visits but collaborates with the Royal College of Physicians Invited Service Review process. Details of this process and how to access it are located at:
Applications to the IRS office that are relevant to cardiology will be referred to the BCS for specialty advice on the conduct of the visit and the make up of the visiting team.
