Michael Davies Early Career Award for contribution to Cardiovascular Science 2010

Deadline Extension

The scheme is open to clinicians and non-clinicians who have an affiliation with a UK institution. The award of £1500 and a certificate will be made at the Annual Conference and Exhibition of the BCS.  The successful candidate will be expected to give an oral presentation in the BHF Fellows session.   A single award will be made each year.

Eligibility:
Eligible are researchers who have shown sustained outstanding productivity over several years, resulting in a significant contribution to cardiovascular science. They are expected to be typically within 5-10 years of achieving their higher degree and to be on track to continue a successful academic career.

Application process:
Deadline for applications is  23.59 hours on 28 February 2010.

Submission consists of:

• A complete CV with details of all awards and published peer reviewed papers, with the 5 most important publications highlighted in bold
  
• A 4-page document (not including references but including figures, single-spaced, 12 font size) that outlines the totality of a contiguous body of work undertaken or supervised by the applicant that has promoted the field of cardiovascular science. Additional material, such as appendices or web site addresses, will not be considered.
  
• The name of two academic referees (one external)

Review and selection:
The BCS will invite a panel of Judges from the BCS Academic and Research Committee, including nominations from the British Heart Foundation.
The successful candidate will be selected solely on the basis of the submitted work, though on occasions external reports of the work may be obtained and, if so, will be considered in the judging process. The panel reserves the right not to make an award in any particular year.
