Ms Stephanie Smith I started the Scientist Training Programme (STP) in 2013, specalising in Cardiac Science, based in Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI). As part of my training I chose to specialise in echocardiography, and undertook my British Society of Echocardiography accreditation. I completed the STP last summer and have continued working at the MRI. My final year project was to assess the utility of 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography with combined CT (18F-FDG PET/CT) usage in an improved patient pathway to reduce the time to diagnosis, length of stay and antibiotic prescription with suspected but not proven cardiac device infections. This project won the advancing healthcare award for, Institute for Physics and Engineering in Medicine award for patients as partners in science.
